TANGO

Tango is a popular dance that means charm and elegance, but at the beginning it was very different. Tango was the music of the poor people of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Nowadays, Tango is danced all over the world.

Tango was born in Buenos Aires around 1880. There were a lot of immigrants trying to forget their lives problems. Tango was the result of the mixing of several cultures. In Tango, one can notice slight influence of African cultures, perhaps more likely Cuban rhythms, and part of European cultures, that came with Spaniards and other immigrants. For instance, one of the most important musical instruments used to play tango is the bandoneon. This musical instrument, like the acordeon, was brought to Argentina from Germany in 1886.

Carlos Gardel helped develop tango-canción in the 1920s and became one of the most popular tango artists of all time.

Rock ‘n’ Roll

Rock and roll is a musical style that emerged in the United States in the 1950s. It was a combination of some musical genres, such as guitar-accompanied rhythm and blues, jazz, black and white gospel music, and the songs of popular white crooners and harmony groups.

Elvis Presley (1935–1977) made rock and roll the musical style of the 1950s and 1960s, influencing many other musicians who adapted the music to this new style.
